Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use a Personal Trainer?

Some people are happy to devise and follow their own workout programme. But if you have certain fitness goals a personal trainer will devise a targeted programme to help you reach them quickly and effectively. You also benefit from their extensive knowledge and experience to help you to stay motivated so that you can see your progress and development and achieve guaranteed results.

What's the typical cost of a personal trainer?

Unfortunately there is no typical cost. Costs vary according to where you live, gym fees and the expertise of your trainer. Remember trainers are qualified professionals and you are paying for their knowledge and expertise. If you book with me you should expect to pay between £35 and £50 per session depending on how many sessions you book, where you train and the length of the sessions that you book. If you contact me we can discuss your requirements and come up with a plan that suits you and is effective and affordable.

Does a Personal Trainer ask questions about your lifestyle?

Given the nature of my job I have to ask certain personal questions to understand your needs and fitness goals in order to devise a programme that keeps you safe and injury free. If you have an existing injury or medical condition or are starting training for the first time I may have to ask you to consult your doctor before starting a training programme.

During our first consultation I will ask you questions about your state of health, lifestyle and work commitments. These will include

  • Basic personal details
  • Medical history
  • Fitness background
  • Lifestyle factors (e.g. smoking or drinking)
  • Nutritional habits
  • Personal goals and objectives in relation to fitness

All this information is strictly confidential and is not shared with anyone else.

As a trainer I don't just provide a list of exercises for you do but I encompass other aspects of your life to improve your health and wellbeing. I am qualified to advise you on nutrition, motivational techniques, management of lower back pain and stress management.

Will my Trainer put me on a diet/ Stop me smoking/make me stop drinking?

I am only here to offer you help and advice. It is up to you whether you act on that or not. Most people are aware of how their lifestyle impacts their health and they come to see me to help them change for the better. I can help you to live a better, healthier life if that is what you want but ultimately you have to make your own decisions. However, in my experience, once my clients embark on a fitness programme and start to see results they also start to make positive changes to their lifestyle.

What happens during a Personal Training session?

A training session will usually last for one hour. Our first session together will be a consultation and an assessment of your levels of fitness. I will then devise a bespoke fitness programme for you which always starts with a warm up session. The main part of the session will focus on cardiovascular, flexibility and strengthening using weights, resistance equipment and floor exercises. Finally, there will be a cool down period incorporating stretching and relaxation.

Can I set the time I work out?

I understand that my clients have busy lives and may only have limited time to come and train with me. I will do my best to make sure that you can come at a time to suit you. However, I do have existing clients so it helps if you can be a bit flexible.

What if I have to cancel?

I understand that you won't always be able to attend a training session. However, if you do need to cancel please give at least 24 hours notice otherwise I will have to charge a cancellation fee.
